Greenhouse gases have led to extreme climate events that pose a severe threat to human survival. The ecological destruction and economic impacts caused by these events have been repeatedly confirmed through scientific research. However, the development of renewable energy during the transition to net-zero carbon emissions still raises some concerns. The installation of solar power projects inevitably faces issues regarding whether agricultural and forest lands are being overdeveloped. The resulting environmental, landscape, ecological, and local industry impacts require academic research and reasonable policies to correct and regulate.
In an interview with The Storm Media, Professors Chang Shih-Chieh and Tai Hsing-Sheng from the "Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Ecology and Sustainability Sciences (CIRES)" at National Dong Hwa University discussed how their center uses Taiwan's only three-year photovoltaic research program to transform academic research and scientific evidence into a platform for public participation and guidance for policy development.
