International Symposium-Ecology Today: Advances, Social Relevance, Challenges

Date: 2026.01.03~05

Location: NDHU College of Environmental Studies and Oceanography

Since the mid-20th century, ecology has gradually evolved from natural history into a multidisciplinary science that integrates observation, theory, and cross-disciplinary modeling. In the face of global crises such as climate change and biodiversity loss, the demand for ecological knowledge has grown increasingly urgent, with IPCC and IPBES reports further underscoring the importance of effective governance actions. However, transforming extensive ecological knowledge into concrete social and policy actions—while overcoming the challenges of interdisciplinary collaboration and the variability of local systems—remains a central issue in contemporary ecology. This conference aims to bring together ecologists and socio-ecological researchers from around the world to examine recent advances in ecology, explore applications of ecological knowledge in governance practice, and build effective bridges between science and action to support more forward-looking and actionable environmental governance strategies.
