In August 2023, the Taiwan Carbon Solution Exchange was established, marking the beginning of Taiwan's transition into the "carbon-priced" era. This move is part of the goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. According to Taiwan's carbon reduction plan (2020), approximately 300 million tons of carbon are emitted annually. Of this, 148 million tons of CO2 come from industry, transportation, and other economic activities, while 140 million tons come from power generation. In the future, power generation emissions will be reduced through green energy and technologies such as carbon capture. For the industrial sector, carbon offsetting will rely on carbon sinks, such as forests, to balance emissions.
Regarding Taiwan's carbon credit and net-zero policies, the efforts of major companies, current policies and practices in Taiwan, and research being conducted by the scientific community are all detailed in the following report.
